A nursery makeover shaped around an awkward layout, with arches, soft sage panelling, playful pattern and thoughtful updates giving the room a warm new identity.
Type: The Identity Affair (Interior Makeover) | Location: Mumbai | Size: 1Bedroom
Scope of the Project
This nursery makeover came together on a very short turnaround, with the challenge of making an awkward room feel softer and more considered. The design needed to create clear sections for sleeping, the crib and changing area, while working with the room’s existing beams, wardrobes and curtains rather than treating them as limitations.
The Client Brief
The brief was to create a nursery that felt soft, playful and warm, with enough visual definition to make the different functions of the room feel intentional. A palette of sage, ivory and oak was paired with playful patterns and vintage-inspired details, allowing the room to feel cheerful without becoming overly busy.
Description Notes
The existing beams became an important part of the solution. Instead of trying to disguise the awkwardness of the layout, arches were introduced between them to visually divide the room into clearer zones. The curved forms softened the architecture while helping distinguish the sleeping, crib and changing areas.
Soft sage panelling was carried across the walls, creating a calm backdrop for the room. The existing wardrobes were given a simple update with bobbin moulding, adding texture and character without replacing them. Oak wood finishes and ivory details kept the overall palette feeling warm and natural.
The playful jungle wallpaper brought a little more imagination into the space, while an arched chair in a classic check fabric introduced another layer of pattern. Even the existing curtains were given a new life with a checkered border, showing how smaller interventions could make familiar elements feel completely different.
The final layer came through the details. Vintage artwork and a sweet little quote added personality without taking away from the calmness of the room, while the repeated arches and checks created subtle connections between the different elements.
What could have been a difficult layout became part of the design itself. The finished nursery is soft, playful and warm, with each section feeling intentional and every existing element given a reason to stay.
