The Client Brief

This was a builder-finish home designed as our client’s guest house, with a simple brief: maximalist, colourful and full of jewel tones.

The home was built around burgundy, emerald green and navy blue, softened with sage, dusty pink and small pops of mustard. Rather than giving every room the same treatment, we let each bedroom take on one of these colours as its own personality — burgundy for the arched bedroom, blue for the smallest bedroom and deep green for the master.

Description Notes

From there, we layered. Prints over prints, patterns over patterns. Patterned curtains, floral wallpapers and eclectic art brought the rooms to life, while arches introduced a recurring architectural detail through the common areas.

We also worked with what was already there, refurbishing the existing doors and wardrobes rather than replacing everything. New pieces were then brought in to build up the character of the home — including bone inlay furniture, a red iron bed and a bar designed to completely close up into a cabinet when not in use.

The result is colourful without feeling disconnected. Repeating tones, shapes and details create a visual thread between rooms, allowing each space to have its own identity while still belonging to the same home.
