How a Mumbai rental became a joyful celebration of colour, comfort, and collected treasures
Type: The Identity Affair (Interior Makeover) | Location: Mumbai | Size: Rental Apartment
Scope of the Project
One of our earliest rental makeovers and a defining Attirail project. Through bold colour palettes, layered textures, statement wallpapers, and deeply personal styling, we transformed a standard rental into a home where every room carried its own personality while still feeling connected to the whole.
The Client Brief
The clients weren't looking for a neutral backdrop or a trend-driven home. They wanted spaces that felt expressive, lived-in, and deeply personal. Open to experimentation and unafraid of colour, they embraced the idea that every room could tell a different story. The challenge was creating a home filled with distinct moods and strong visual identities while ensuring it still felt cohesive, welcoming, and comfortable enough for everyday life.
Description Notes
Rather than imposing a single aesthetic throughout the home, we leaned into contrast and character. Each room was given its own palette, personality, and visual language while recurring materials, textiles, and styling details created continuity from one space to the next. Layered wallpapers, rich fabrics, vintage-inspired pieces, and handcrafted Indian details helped establish the home's eclectic spirit. The transformation came through colour, texture, and thoughtful styling rather than major structural changes.
One of the most memorable spaces was the warm, vibrant home office, which featured our first-ever Kalakaari Haath installation. Elsewhere, bone inlay sat comfortably beside vintage accents, while striking wallpapers and richly patterned textiles gave each room its own mood. Despite the variety, every detail contributed to a home that felt collected, expressive, and unmistakably personal.
From the blue wallpapered bedroom to the leafy balcony opening into the living space, this home embraced the joy of living boldly. Every room carried its own personality, yet together they created a home that felt layered, welcoming, and full of life. It remains one of our earliest expressions of the Attirail aesthetic: a home where comfort and character exist in equal measure, and where being surrounded by the things you love is always enough.
