The Rental That Found Its Colour

The Rental That Found Its Colour

A Warm, Cheerful Home with Room for Personality

Type: The Identity Affair (Interior Makeover) | Location: Mumbai | Size: Living Dining of 2.5 BHK

Scope of the Project

A lockdown-era rental transformed from a functional neutral home into a warm, colourful space filled with character.

One of ATTIRAIL’s early rental makeovers, this home had been set up during lockdown when IKEA was one of the only available options. It worked, but felt practical rather than personal. The brief was to bring in warmth, colour and character, create clearer zones between the foyer, living and dining areas, and add more seating.

The Client Brief

The approach was to work with what the rental already had, while giving it a stronger visual identity. Long wall panelling was introduced across the common areas, helping the spaces feel larger and creating continuity from one zone to the next. The piano became a natural divider between the foyer and living room, while a console and bench gave the entrance its own sense of arrival.

The living room was reworked around existing pieces that could be given a new life. The large TV unit was removed and replaced with a smaller chest, opening up room for two Chandigarh chairs. The existing sofa and armchair were reupholstered in playful colours and prints, while a bone inlay coffee table added another eclectic layer.

Description Notes

The dining area followed the same idea of making the existing home work harder. The small bookshelf was extended upwards on one side, while a lower unit was added alongside it to double as a buffet console. A distressed dining table, bench and printed chairs brought more texture into the room. Artwork collected through the clients’ travels, along with things they loved, helped shift the home from furnished to genuinely theirs.

Sage, mustard and nude pink became the thread running through the home, connecting the spaces without making them feel too coordinated. The result is a rental that feels warm, cosy and distinctly personal, proving that even a temporary home can have plenty of character.

From a fairly neutral lockdown rental to a warm, cheerful little dream, the makeover gave the home what it had been missing: colour, character and a sense of belonging.
