How colonial character, vintage finds, and mid-century pieces came together in one eclectic home
Type: The Mood Affair | Location: Mumbai | Size: 2.5 BHK
Scope of the Project
This heritage home in Colaba already had plenty of character, from its colonial-style furniture to its beautiful patterned Bharat tile floors. The clients loved vintage, mid-century modern and eclectic design, so the project became about bringing these different influences together without competing with what made the old home special.
The Client Brief
The brief was to refresh the home while letting its existing character lead the way. Some furniture was reupholstered, while new accent tables, dining chairs and armchairs were layered alongside the clients’ own modern and mid-century pieces. Colours, prints and materials were chosen to complement the Bharat tiles, with arches, partitions, artwork and plants adding the finishing layers.
Description Notes
In the living areas, existing colonial-style furniture was given a fresh lease of life through reupholstery, then mixed with newer accent pieces. The result brought together different periods without making the room feel overly styled or coordinated.
The large spaces were given more definition through arches and partitions, creating distinct sections while keeping the rooms open and connected.
The Bharat tile floors became an important part of the palette. Rather than competing with their strong patterns, muted rugs, considered upholstery and complementary materials were layered around them. Eclectic artwork and plenty of plants added the final touches, bringing colour, softness and personality into the rooms.
The finished home brings colonial, vintage and mid-century influences into conversation, while allowing the original character of this beautiful old Colaba home to remain at the centre.
