How a builder-finish apartment became a layered retreat inspired by seaside living, family traditions, and everyday comfort.
Type: The Soul Affair (Modified Builder Finish) | Location: Mumbai | Size: 4 BHK
Scope of the Project
Our first builder-finish project, designed for a multigenerational family of six. Through custom details, layered textures, wallpapers, and thoughtful spatial planning, we transformed the apartment into a coastal-inspired home that balances warmth, playfulness, and a subtle connection to the family's South Indian roots.
The Client Brief
The clients envisioned a home inspired by the colours and memories they loved most—blue seas, white beaches, tropical landscapes, and the warmth of family gatherings. Designed for a couple, their two children, and grandparents, the home needed to feel fresh and airy while remaining cosy and welcoming. They wanted a space that embraced personality, layered details, and a sense of escapism without losing its connection to everyday life.
Description Notes
The design draws heavily from coastal influences, blending soft blues, natural textures, tropical motifs, and vintage-inspired details. In the living room, a faux fireplace creates a warm focal point, while wallpapers, intricate wall stencils, and print-on-print styling bring depth and character throughout the home. The resulting aesthetic feels eclectic yet calming, creating spaces that feel collected over time rather than formally designed. Every room balances colour and texture in a way that feels vibrant without overwhelming the senses.
The home's most memorable spaces celebrate both craftsmanship and personality. A custom pomegranate-inspired headboard anchors the grandparents' bedroom, while a tropical mural introduces movement and energy into the shared spaces. In the master bedroom, a hand-painted study unit became one of the defining features of the home, bringing artistry and function together. Throughout the house, carefully layered prints, textiles, and decorative details create a rich visual narrative rooted in travel, heritage, and family life.
The children's spaces were designed as worlds of their own. One room became a dedicated play zone, while the other focused on rest and routine. Starry ceiling murals, climbing walls, whimsical wallpapers, and imaginative details encourage curiosity and creativity at every turn. The result is a home that feels soulful, playful, and deeply personal—a seamless blend of coastal ease, family heritage, and the joy of everyday living.
