A Home Between Two Worlds

A Home Between Two Worlds

How a Mumbai apartment was designed to carry the warmth, softness, and rhythm of life on a family farm.

Type: The Soul Affair (Builder Finish Transformation) | Location: Mumbai | Size: 3 BHK

Scope of the Project

A complete transformation of a three-bedroom apartment designed to bridge two very different worlds. Through custom detailing, layered prints, floral motifs, and thoughtful architectural interventions, the home was reimagined as an urban retreat that feels deeply connected to the client's life beyond the city.

The Client Brief

The client divides her time between this Mumbai apartment and her farm on the city's outskirts. Rather than creating two completely different experiences, she wanted both homes to feel emotionally connected. The apartment needed to carry the same sense of calm, familiarity, and closeness to nature that defined life on the farm, while still functioning as a practical family home in the city.

Description Notes

The design draws its inspiration directly from the client's surroundings. A palette of muted mustard yellows, blush pinks, and sage greens creates a light, cheerful atmosphere throughout the home, while florals become the emotional thread connecting one room to the next. Many of these motifs were inspired by flowers growing on the farm itself, including a bespoke madhumalti wallpaper that was designed specifically for the project. Smaller floral details appear throughout the home, creating moments of familiarity and delight.

To soften the existing architecture, arches were introduced throughout the apartment, helping create a more fluid and welcoming experience. The interiors layer Indian and global influences through textiles, prints, handcrafted details, and collected pieces. Several custom elements were created specifically for the family, including a vintage saree integrated into the TV unit, embroidery inspired by favourite motifs, and carefully selected indoor greenery that strengthens the connection between indoors and out.

The result is a home that feels nurturing, personal, and deeply rooted in the client's story. Every room carries traces of the farm's colours, textures, and memories, allowing the transition between city and countryside to feel seamless. It is a home that offers a gentle pause from urban life while remaining warm, functional, and unmistakably lived in.
